Lyme Regis Sailing Club is situated adjacent to the harbour at the foot of Cobb Hill. The well-equipped clubhouse has a bar, galley, male and female changing facilities with showers, and a sun deck which overlooks the harbour and sea. The Cobb creates a safe and sheltered harbour for both yachts and fishing boats. The harbour itself dries out at low water, but is shallow and shelving, offering hard standing that is ideal for launching and recovering boats. In 1980 the club hosted the Fireball European Championships and in 1990 the Fireball UK Nationals. In more recent years the club has hosted the 505, Scorpion, Phantom and Merlin Rocket National Championships.
Lyme Regis as a holiday venue is a unique, yet quintessentially English seaside town surrounded by beautiful Dorset countryside with spectacular views. The Jurassic coast is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for geology and fossils with plenty of opportunities for beachcombing. The area has a strong literary heritage with John Fowles’ “The French Lieutenant’s Women,” Jane Austen’s “Persuasion” and Thomas Hardy in nearby Dorchester. As a holiday destination there is a wide variety of accommodation available to suit all needs.
