Day one of the 2022 Firefly Nationals in Tenby dawned bright and sunny with a gentle breeze, a whisker more than forecast. After two years without a Firefly Week everyone was ready and raring to go. The 43 Fireflies set off out to the race course in good spirits for three scheduled races.

Wednesday of the Firefly Nationals has become known as “Big Wednesday”. It is the day of the Ralph Gore Challenge Cup, an epic 12 mile race around triangles, followed by prizegiving, and Pimms and fancy dress party (theme “come as the name of your boat”).

After yesterday’s blast round the bay, the fleet were greeted with quieter conditions, however the pain moved from the legs to the head as the shifty conditions proved tricky for sailors and race committee alike.
