Wednesday of the Firefly Nationals has become known as “Big Wednesday”. It is the day of the Ralph Gore Challenge Cup, an epic 12 mile race around triangles, followed by prizegiving, and Pimms and fancy dress party (theme “come as the name of your boat”).

After yesterday’s blast round the bay, the fleet were greeted with quieter conditions, however the pain moved from the legs to the head as the shifty conditions proved tricky for sailors and race committee alike.

At last, the much-anticipated Firefly 70th Anniversary Championships has arrived! Sixty -three Fireflies arrived in Tenby on Saturday and were welcomed by Pembrokeshire’s sparkling best weather, and a good proportion of the fleet enjoyed the perfect Force 3-4 and sunshine in Carmarthen Bay for the practice race. Line honours, after a quick canter round the bay, went to Fred Mainwaring and Jenn Lamb in Purple Doris, following by Jono and Sarah Pank in Pogie.
